WHAT TO EXPECT

pushing-air-through-ducts.png

You can expect our crew to explain the process upon arrival and briefly tour the house with the homeowner to ensure all vents are identified and not overlooked.  You can expect the utmost respect in protecting your home, occupants, and pets.  The two-man crew will remove shoes and then place protective coverings (long runners and blankets) over any area where vacuum hoses will be placed.  A large tarp will be clamped over the door or window located close to the furnace we use for access of the vacuum and air hoses in an effort to maintain the inside temperature, as well prevent flying insects, etc. from getting inside.  If pets are present we will advise the homeowner about the unfamiliar sound the cleaning process produces to help keep them comfortable.  The registers throughout the home will be inspected and carefully removed (if possible) to allow access for air compressor lines equipped with various agitating tools.

THE DUCTWORKS PROCESS

  • An 8″ diameter access hole is made in the supply and return trunk lines to mount the vacuum hose which is connected to a 350 pound vacuum located outside the home. The vacuum can be placed near a door or window closest to the furnace and is operated by a 20 horse power engine capable of removing dust, construction debris, and whatever else may find its way into the air conveyance system.

  • The air filter is then removed and replaced heavy cardboard which is placed firmly in the filter cabinet to help isolate the vacuum power on either side of the air conveyance system (supply and demand) as it is being cleaned.

  • All registers/vents will then be inspected for removal and then closed with the existing damper, plastic tape or cardboard cut to size. Many registers/vents may not be removed due to excessive coats of paint, caulk or simply part of the woodwork.

  • An air compressor line providing 175 pounds per square inch (psi) is inserted in each branch line. This line is equipped with tools equipped with a ball attached with whips which thrash around dislodging any debris and blowing toward the trunk line. This process, coupled with the negative pressure created by the vacuum, is very effective in removing any buildup created over years.

  • After the preceding process is completed on both the supply and return sides on each floor we then repeat the process in the trunk lines via 1″ diameter holes created in key areas. This allows access to the entire trunk lines where the debris has been pushed. Additional air tools are then used to pull the debris to the vacuum hose which safely delivers it to a large bag and bucket connected to the vacuum.

  • We then air wash the furnace to remove dust from the blower, burners and filter area. The two main access holes are then sealed with metal patches which are screwed in and edges covered in foil tape. The 1″ diameter holes a sealed with cap lugs and a company sticker indicating the date and next recommended cleaning time frame. Keep in mind the access holes will be used again when we return for subsequent cleanings.
